Why am I receiving an error message when trying to scan on my Canon device?

Canon have made us aware of an issue with some Canon printers, showing the following error message:

If this happens, a quick work around is to switch your printer off then turn it back on again. Following this, please log an IT ticket to ensure your printer can be upgraded to provide a permanent fix.
